Advocacy Organizations

Rag & Bones Co-op

Rag & Bones is a D.I.Y community bicycle shop in the city of Richmond that was founded in 2010. They aim to provide affordable bicycles, parts, and repairs to the community of Richmond. Much of their work is centered around teaching community members how to work on their bikes in an inclusive and affirming space, as seen though the weekly Women, Trans, Femme night when the shop is only opened to folks who hold those identities.

Bike Walk RVA

Bike Walk RVA is a program part of Sportsbackers that focuses their advocacy on making biking and walking safer and more accessible for community members of all ages and abilities. They have played a huge role in creating safer infrastructure for riding and walking in the city and have made a strong effort to connect community members to resources and opportunities to get involved with advocacy here in Richmond.

Virginia Bicycling Federation

The Virginia Bicycling Federation is a statewide organization that was formed in the early 1990's. They have worked with various national organizations, such as the League of American Bicyclists; and statewide government organizations, such as the Virginia Department of Transportation; to promote better and safer cycling infrastructure and promote cycling as healthy and environmentally friendly form of alternative transportation.

League of American Cyclists

Founded in 1880, The League of American Bicyclists has made it their mission to lead a movement to create a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone. The league has for generations, focused their work on continuing to advocate for better cycling infrastructure, provide educational resources, and promoting cycling as the choice for transportation and leading a healthier life.
